What Donald Trump has promised will happen if he becomes US president

It has become a frighteningly real prospect that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee to run for the president of the United States.

Trump is leading in the polls ahead of the coming Super Tuesday, which includes traditionally important states such as Ohio and Florida.

The primaries battle on Tuesday (US time) has been dubbed as a do-or-die battle for two other candidates who are barely still in the race - Marco Rubio and John Kasich.

Rubio's home state is Florida and Kasich is the popular governor of Ohio.

In fact, the two men's key objective now is to stop Trump from winning. And this has even led to Rubio asking his supporters to back Kasich in Ohio. 

If Trump wins both states, it is almost guaranteed that he will be the Republican nominee.

And why is that so dangerous?

Below are some of the things that he's promised as soon as he steps into the Oval Office at the White House.

Build a wall along the US-Mexico border

The wall is meant to keep the people of Mexico out of the US. Trump has, during the course of his campaign, consistently maintained that Mexican immigrants are "really bad people" and referred to them as "killers" and "rapists" when he first announced his presidential candidacy last year.

And Trump is expecting Mexico to pay for this "great, great wall" although Mexico is having none of it. Its politicians, including its current prime minister, have condemned such a wall.

Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto said there will be "no scenario" in which Mexico will pay for the wall. He even went as far as to make unfavourable comparisons with former dictators Hitler and Mussolini.

“There have been episodes in human history, unfortunately, where these expressions of this strident rhetoric have only led to very ominous situations in the history of humanity.” Peña Nieto said. “That’s how Mussolini got in, that's how Hitler got in, they took advantage of a situation, a problem perhaps, which humanity was going through at the time, after an economic crisis.”

 

"If I become president, we're all going to be saying 'Merry Christmas' again."

It is unclear just how high up this is on the list of tasks he will undertake as president, but this was one of the promises he made.

Instead of Happy Holidays, which is more commonly used in the US to be more inclusive of all religions, Trump wants to bring back Merry Christmas instead.

Temporarily ban most foreign Muslims from entering the US

 

 

Trump has brought up the idea of banning foreign Muslims from entering the country numerous times - a call that has received much backlash from both the Democrat and Republican parties.

In December last year, after the Paris attacks, the Trump campaign said he wanted a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on."

Ban Syrian refugees from entering the country and kick out any who are already living here

Trump, along with many Republican politicians, have been outspoken about banning Syrian refugees. But Trump's rhetoric continues to be vile.

He said about the refugees: "They might be ISIS, they may be the great Trojan horse of all time.

"Europe is being absolutely swamped and destroyed with the crime and the problems, and it could be some sinister plot. With migration, you look at the lines and you look at the tremendous amount of young strong men in these lines and you wonder what's going on," he added.

Heavy surveillance of "certain" mosques in the US

 

 

Trump said at a rally to cheers from the crowd: "I want surveillance of these people".

He even said that he's open to the idea of closing some mosques. 

"Bomb the s*** out of ISIS." 

 

 

This is essentially Trump's foreign policy. 

He said: "Isis is making a tremendous amount of money because they have certain oil camps, certain areas of oil that they took away.

"They have some in Syria, some in Iraq. I would bomb the s*** out of them. I would just bomb those suckers. That's right. I'd blow up the pipes... I'd blow up every single inch. There would be nothing left."

Target and kill the relatives of terrorists

 

 

When he was asked by journalists how he would fight Isis, he said: "The other thing with the terrorists is you have to take out their families. They care about their lives, don't kid yourself. When they say they don't care about their lives, you have to take out their families."

Bring back waterboarding

 

 

Donald Trump said last month that he would “bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding”. The torture technique is forbidden in US and international law.

He also said: "Don't tell me it doesn't work - torture works."

Trump also said: "They (terrorists) deserve it anyway for what they're doing."

Deporting almost 11 million immigrants illegally living in the US

Despite the fact that it would cost US$114 billion (S$157 billion) to deport all 11 million immigrants from the country, Trump insists that he would carry out his promise deport all illegal immigrants.

Of course, he has also added that he would terminate President Obama's executive orders that are related to immigration. These executive orders granted temporary amnesty to 5 million immigrants.
