Wife-beater video goes viral
Thanks to social media, crimes are being exposed when the criminals least expect it.
A man who beat his 16-year-old wife in public in Kota Kinabalu has been caught, thanks to his violent act being recorded on video by a witness.
The Star reported that the video, which shows the unemployed man climbing out of the front passenger seat to attack his wife, has gone viral.
This has led to his arrest less than 12 hours after the alleged incident yesterday (July 15).
The man is reportedly 20 years old and he and his wife have a 10-month-old son.
Police chief, Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, said the man's wife had lodged a report saying that she was beaten by her husband over some family matters.
“The man was nabbed in Sinsuran near where they were living, while the victim was taken to the hospital to treat her injuries."
The New Straits Times reported that the teen suffered from neck injuries from being slapped and kicked by her husband.
Mr Chandra said the man had refused to give his wife money to buy their son's diapers.
She then chased her husband to his friend's car, where her husband had already got into the passenger seat.
She had taken a knife with her because she was afraid that her husband would turn violent on her.
But her husband then exited the car through the window and slapped and kicked her till she fell to the ground.
The man then left the scene in his friend's car.
Witnesses to the fight had recorded it on video and shared it on social media platforms which led to his eventual arrest.
