Worst souvenir ever? Backpacker finds leech in nose - a month after holiday
How's this for a souvenir?
A Scottish backpacker, Daniela Liverani, brought back something special from her trip to Vietnam.
No, it wasn't a keychain or a fridge magnet.
It was a leech, measuring over 7.5 cm long.
Think that's gross?
Wait, there's more: Imagine it in her nose for one whole month.
She had been suffering from constant nosebleeds when she continued on her trip throughout Southeast Asia.
But she thought that it was just a burst blood vessel following a motorbike accident.
When she was taking a shower back home in Edinburgh, she noticed something poking out of her nose.
Liverani said: "After I got home, the nosebleeds stopped and I started seeing something sticking out of my nostril. I just thought it was congealed blood from the nosebleeds."
She said: "I tried to blow him out and grab him but I couldn't get a grip of him before he retreated back up my nose."
Agony has doctors tried to remove leech
She then rushed to the hospital to have it removed.
The staff had to pin her down while the doctor tried to take the leech out.
She said: "It was agony. Whenever the doctor grabbed him, I could feel the leech tugging at the inside of my nose."
Thankfully, the doctors were successful and Liverani has since named the leech "Mr Curly".
