British pub chain Hungry Horse has been labelled "irresponsible" by a leading nutritionist for its dangerously unhealthy burger.

The Double Donut burger contains two beef patties crowned with cheese, four bacon strips and barbecue sauce, packaged between two glazed ring donuts.

Served with the tag line "So Wrong It's Right", the burger packs a whopping 1,966 calories.

It also contains 53g of saturated fat and 8.2g of salt.

Both exceed the recommended daily allowance for adults.

Nutrition expert Mel Wakerman said: "To me, this is simply ludicrious and irresponsible.

Heart attack on a plate

“I am no killjoy but why is this sort of food available? This burger is literally a heart attack on a plate.

“Taking the children to an eatery like this will guarantee we continue to reinforce unhealthy eating habits."

However, Steve Jebson, a spokesperson for Hungry Horse, told Mashable: "All the nutritional information for our menu is available on our website and in our pubs, so that our customers are able to make informed decisions about what they choose to eat.”

Wakerman added that burning the calories would require around three hours of continuous running.

Hungry Horse has more than 220 restaurants across Britain.
