'You stole my son's umbrella!': Lazada delivery man caught on CCTV taking item left at doorstep
"Everything I put outside, I'm preparing for them to be 'lost'," said one netizen.
When a Lazada delivery man arrived at a customer's doorstep with a parcel, he appeared to take something in return - an umbrella that had been left outside.
TikTok user, littlecozymomentswithme, shared CCTV footage of the incident, which occurred on Oct 16.
The 11-second clip shows a courier placing two parcels back into his bag, leaving one package on a shoe rack near the front door.
As he turns to leave, he casually picks up an umbrella lying on the floor and walks off.
The subtitle in the video reads: "You stole my son's umbrella!"
The TikTok user lamented that the automatic umbrella, which opens with the push of a button, had been bought in Japan.
"You sure know how to choose," the user wrote.
The post has since garnered more than 98,500 views and 1,300 likes.
A similar incident of a delivery courier stealing parcels after claiming they have been delivered went viral in August.
Netizens amused and angry
Most commenters sided with the TikTok user, acknowledging that it was a persistent problem.
"Our government needs to do something about this," one wrote, while others urged her to file a complaint or police report.
Several users joked that the user should place another order and wait for the delivery man to return.
Others were more pessimistic, with one asking: "My question is why you wanna put stuff outside your house?"
Another agreed, adding: "Everything I put outside, I'm preparing for them to be 'lost'. So I can sleep peacefully."
One person gave another perspective: "Maybe he thought it's free for them to take."
In response to queries from The New paper, Lazada confirmed that it is conducting internal investigations.
"At Lazada, we take such cases very seriously and do not condone any form of misconduct," the spokesperson said.
