YouTrip users in Singapore can now store and spend Malaysian ringgit (MYR) directly through the app, following the launch of a new MYR wallet aimed at making cross-border travel more seamless.

To mark the rollout, the multi-currency payment platform is offering free shuttle bus services between Singapore and Johor Bahru across four weekends, from 19 April to 11 May 2025.

The shuttle service will run every 30 minutes from 9am to 9.30pm, connecting Kranji MRT station to Mid Valley Southkey, a popular shopping destination in JB.

Commuters must pre-book their seats via links on YouTrip's official Instagram or Telegram channels.

With the new ringgit wallet, users can exchange and store MYR at competitive rates without hidden charges or foreign exchange mark-ups.

Strong demand for ringgit

YouTrip in its press release on April 16 said the platform recorded a 130% increase in ringgit conversions on 9 April, when the currency weakened to 3.33 against the Singapore dollar - a sign of growing demand for ringgit-denominated transactions.

"YouTrip users are increasingly looking for greater control and flexibility when managing their travel expenses," said YouTrip's Chief Operating Officer Kelvin Lam.

In addition to the shuttle service, YouTrip is offering limited-time promotions for users transacting in ringgit.

The first 5,000 users who spend a minimum of S$200 cumulatively in Malaysian ringgit will receive 3% cashback on their purchases.

From 16 April to 17 June, users can also enjoy up to 10% cashback at selected Malaysian retailers, including JD Sports, Caring Pharmacy, Lotus's, and participating Decathlon outlets.

YouTrip, licensed by MAS, operates in Singapore and Thailand, It has processed over US$10 billion in transactions across the region since its inception.
