YouTuber gives homeless man US$100: Experiment touches hearts

This article is more than 12 months old

American YouTuber Josh Paler Lin decided to conduct a social experiment by giving a homeless man US$100 (S$132).

Then, the team filmed him in secret to find out what the man would spend on.

The homeless man, known only as Thomas, was shown patronising a liquor store.

But wait, he proceeds to confound Lin's expectations - by feeding other homeless people in a park instead of buying alcohol.

"I thought this video would be more an exposing homeless people video at first.

But I'm so glad that I could witness and capture such a beautiful moment. This has to be one of the most amazing experiences so far on this channel.

I did not only just help a homeless man, but I actually met an incredible human being and a friend." - Josh Paler Lin in the YouTube video.

The clip was not Lin's first social experiment.

He has a history of conducting such experiments, usually with a more mischievous slant.

Take, for example, his "bloody tooth prank".

The homeless man video has received over 7.1 million views since it was uploaded on Dec 22.

Lin is also raising money for Thomas via crowd funding site, IndieGoGo.

Since the funding site started on Dec 22, it has broken its goal of raising US$10,000.

As of this morning (Dec 24), the amount raised hit just under US$38,000.

What's the moral of the story? Don't judge a book by its cover!
