Jem's jams: A timeline of unfortunate events

In yet another incident of problems plaguing Jem mall in Jurong East, Saladworks, a shop located on the second floor, was flooded on Thursday (April 16).

An employee told The Straits Times that "water just started coming from the pipe".

According to the report, this was not the first time the shop has been flooded.

An employee working in a shop two units away from Saladworks was quoted as saying that the shop was flooded around Christmas period last year.

This is the latest in a series of unfortunate events which has plagued the two-year-old mall.

June 2013

Slated to be open by June 11, it was delayed by four days because it lacked the required fire permits.

Three people were injured after a portion of the false ceiling of the first floor collapsed. According to a statement from the Building and Construction Authority a day after the incident, the weight of water which had leaked from the water pipe was a likely cause for the collapse.

The mall was closed for two weeks after the incident for repairs and checks.

Some retailers on the third level and basement one were affected by a power cut which lasted 11 hours. Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao said the power outage lasted from 7am to 6pm.

The fire sprinklers suddenly came on, forcing affected tenants to close for a day to clean up.

The mall's spokesman said that sprinklers from three levels were switched on but they did not specify what caused them to be activated in the first place.
