Glorious Biscuit fires in another cracking win in Ipoh

Trainer Ismadi's 6YO galloper bounces back to his best in Ipoh

IPOH Glorious Biscuit, a beaten favourite when seventh on a soft track in Ipoh at his last start on Oct 4, made amends by winning the RM20,000 (S$6,100) Class 5A race over 1,400m under similar track conditions on Oct 19.

With his regular rider How Yang unavailable, jockey Wong Kam Chong took the ride on the Highland Reel six-year-old trained by Ismadi Ismail, and they triumphed over the Richard-Lim trained favourite Southern Speed in Race 6.

One of the first to break, Troy See allowed Southern Speed to take the lead from barrier 1 shortly after jumping.

The Mahadi Taib-trained Dream King (Lim Shung Uai) settled in second, while Glorious Biscuit raced a handy third on the rails when the field settled down.

Turning for home, Southern Speed was quick to up the ante, with Dream King and Glorious Biscuit still tracking the front runner. A Better Tomorrow (Suriya Arunsalam) moved up next, followed by Mr Hooper (Harmeet Singh Gill).

At the 400m, Southern Speed was challenged by Dream King on his outside, and Glorious Biscuit on his inside.

The three runners were almost neck and neck, with A Better Tomorrow just a length adrift.

The front four fought it out in a line in the final 300m, but it was only in the closing stages that Glorious Biscuit ($24) gradually pulled away to win by 2¼ lengths.

Southern Speed held on for second, ¾ length in front of A Better Tomorrow, who beat Dream King for third place.

It was Glorious Biscuit's second win from 19 starts in Malaysia, adding to two victories he achieved in Australia.

The Australian-bred last scored in a Class 5A contest (1,300m) on June 14.

Since then, he has had six runs for two placings, before he returned to winning ways.

Due to the adverse track and weather conditions, the last five races on the 12-card meeting were called off after the running of Race 7.

Unfortunately, the day's meeting was marred by an accident that occurred in the last race, the Class 4A handicap over 1,000m, in the heavy rain.

Trained by Peter Lee, Authority was leading the field of eight under jockey Rueven Ravindra, but the three-year-old gelding looked unsteady in his gait at times.

A winner on debut when trained by Brian Dean, Authority slipped and fell at the 500m mark, causing Rueven to be dislodged.

The Malaysian jockey suffered from a broken hand as a result.

The race was won by the Khor Peng Hwa-trained Forever Love (Gill, $50), who sprinted home on the outside to beat stablemate Simon (Hafis Saari) into second.

Gill bagged a double, having won earlier atop Fight To Win ($23) in the Class 5B opening event (1,600m) for trainer Stephen Cook.

For trainer Asogan Thangaraju, hardly a meeting goes by these days without him saddling a winner.

The former jockey picked up his 28th win of the season when Shylock ($24) prevailed in the Class 5A race (1,600m) under Saddam Saari. TURFONLINE
