Oct 16 South Africa (Turffontein) form analysis
King's Express back in form and will take some beating
Race 1 (1,000m)
(6) MME HUNTRESS was heavily supported on debut and showed pace over 1,200m before tiring to finish fourth. She would have benefited from the experience and, on that evidence, should be better suited to this shorter trip. The 3YO filly can win second-up.
(2) MASTER'S LADY returns from a break after two months, but she has shown enough to threaten the selection.
(5) IN BETWEEN is worth a market check on debut and can be a danger.
(3) Far Beyond ran fairly at her last two starts, but finished third on debut. Keep an eye on her.
Race 2 (1,000m)
Second in all his three outings, (1) TRAJANUS was touched off by a highly regarded subsequent winner when returning after a rest. He would not need to improve a great deal to open his account.
(5) HAMMER BLOW would have come on appreciably since an encouraging debut, and will likely pose a threat.
Well-bred filly (9) AQUARIUS cannot be taken lightly.
(2) SEED SEEKER has both the form and experience to make his presence felt.
Race 3 (1,600m)
(8) ONETWOBUCKLEMYSHOE justified spirited betting support when a fast-finishing second over 1,450m. She would have come on with the benefit of that experience and should have more to offer over this extended trip, especially in receipt of weight from her male opponents.
(3) WAR SUMMIT and (2) ARIZONA MAGIC have the form and experience to make life difficult for the filly, while (6) GAVIUS MAXIMUS could make his presence felt if he improves after the step-up in trip.
Race 4 (1,200m)
(5) SARAGOSSA CAT confirmed the promise of her course-and-distance debut second with an authoritative maiden success from the front over track and trip last time. She will have more to offer, and from an inside gate, she could be hard to peg back.
Stable companion (2) BLUSHING BLOOM filled the runner-up berth over course and distance twice before a break, and also remains open to improvement.
Older rivals (7) MAVERICK QUEEN and (3) WHIRLYBIRD complete the shortlist.
Race 5 (1,600m)
Last-start winners (7) KING'S EXPRESS and (5) POTBERRIE remain competitive off their revised marks, but the former holds an edge.
The consistent (1) SOLAR SAIL was beaten into second in a similar contest over course and distance last time. Strong claims.
The returning (8) LADY FALLON is weighted to be in the mix on her reappearance.
Race 6 (1,600m)
It could pay to follow the progress of the unexposed 3YO (9) SOHO HEARTTHROB, who should have more to offer stretching out to this trip, especially from a favourable inside gate and with a handy galloping weight to shoulder.
(1) OBSIDIAN has completed a hat-trick before his absence. He is also better suited to this trip, so he must be respected.
Hard-knockers (6) BIRTHRIGHT and (4) PLAYER can acquit themselves competitively.
Race 7 (1,450m)
(3) MICHAEL FARADAY won a similar contest over 1,700m last time, but he is versatile, so this shorter trip should not hold any fears. On the evidence of that performance, a six-point penalty is unlikely to prevent him from following up.
Hard-knocker (4) SUNSHINE DAY, the returning (2) CALIDA and the maturing (5) MATROOSBERG have earning potential.
Veteran (1) CLARKSON concedes weight to all but should fare better in these calmer waters.
