Oct 25 Cox Plate form analysis
Via Sistina to win second Cox Plate
1 Light Infantry Man
Failed to quicken in Group 2 (1,900m) at Rosehill on Oct 11 when finishing 4.53L ninth of 14. Has one unplaced run at the track last year when badly hampered. Needs to show improvement.
2 Antino
Raced wide and without luck when overhauled by Sir Delius to finish second in Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2,000m) at latest when raced handy. Is peaking and has big claims.
3 Attrition
Big odds at past two but has been placed both times, including last start second of 14 in Group 2, beaten 2.17L, at Rosehill. Has three minor placings from five races at the track. Honest but this is tough again.
4 Buckaroo
Former European galloper who is a Group 1 and 2 winner who finished second in last year's Caulfield Cup (2,400m). Has three minor placings this campaign and peak fitness gives him a place chance.
5 Globe
Scratched.
6 Via Sistina
The 10-time Group 1 winner won this race last year by 8L in track record time, defeating champion Japanese horse Prognosis. Won Group 1 (1,400m) first-up but past two where she has finished third both have not gone to plan. She is the one to beat.
7 Treasurethe Moment
Boom mare who has managed two seconds at past two at the shortest of odds. Jockey said she was disappointing last start when beaten 3L in four-horse Group 1 (2,000m) at Caulfield. Has 10 wins and four seconds from 14 starts but pressure is on to bounce back.
8 Aeliana
Finished second to Mr Brightside and in front of third-placed stablemate Via Sistina in Group 1 (1,600m) on Sept 13. Did her best work late when 2.73L fifth of 14 in Group 1 (2,000m) at Flemington at latest outing. Will strip fitter for this.
9 Nepotism
The three-year-old is the youngest contender in the field and will carry the lightest weight, just 49.5kg. Has a Group 1 and 3 victory from his six races. No luck last two, including a seventh in Group 1 (1,600m). Some rough place chance at weight.
