Edge Golf on top after round 2
The Crane Boomers and Team Boustead match highest score of the round at 109.
AFTER the second round of this year’s Business Times Corporate Golf League, which was played out on Raffles Country Club’s Lake Course this week, Edge Golf moved into first position on the league table after scoring an impressive number of stableford points.
However, while 109 was the highest score of the round, it was also matched by The Crane Boomers and Team Boustead, the latter going on to win the Top Team award of an RCC green fee voucher for each player sponsored by RCC and a bottle of wine for the team sponsored by Le Vigne.
This was because Boustead, who are the league’s defending champions, was the team who had the higher scoring individual – Steven Koh with 38 points.
Said Team Boustead’s captain Adrian Chu: “We had a player who scored 38 points today. We feel good and we certainly hope we can repeat last year’s result and hopefully we can carry the momentum over.”
While Edge Golf may be leading, Team Emerio, which shot 104, are only one point behind with their total of 218, with Team Boustead a further point behind in third place.
Team SunMoon, who were league champions from 2012 to 2014, are in fourth with 214 while The Crane Boomers round out the top five with 210.
In the social category, SAS Institute scored the most points, winning for each member a box of golf balls sponsored by SPH Golf and a bottle of wine for the team from Le Vigne.
New to the league this year, which is celebrating its seventh edition, is a prize for the best individual score who will be named the “FootJoy Player of the Round.” Sponsored by FootJoy, the winner will be kitted out in FootJoy golf gear including shoes, socks, glove, shirt, belt and a Titleist cap. Every leg will produce a winner but no one can win twice. Tony Chai Kwang from Team Citi won this round with a stableford score of 38.
This year, there is a Boss Longest Drive Challenge where the winner with the longest distance from the six games will walk away with a full suit ensemble worth S$2,000, sponsored by Hugo Boss. The last round unleashed 264 metres but Tan Teck Lee topped this with a fabulous 275 metres after the second round. He won a Hugo Boss voucher for his efforts.
The second and third longest drives during the round went to Koh Hong Soon (252 metres) and Ken Lye (251 metres) who each won a Hugo Boss voucher.
For the first time in the history of the league, someone won Nearest to Pin on two separate holes during the same round. Koh Hong Soon showed that not only can he rip it with a driver, his iron play is also spot on when he won Nearest to Pin (1.14 metres) on hole two and also hole eight (2.5 metres).
He took home a pair of Karl Phyle Zone by Z Sunglasses courtesy of Spectacle Hut and a Vokey Design SM6 Wedge sponsored by Titleist. Nearest to Pin on 14 was claimed by Steven Koh (1.7 metres) who won a three-day and two-night stay and play package including spa at Laguna Bintan sponsored by Banyan Tree.
Nearest to Line prize on the ninth hole was a S$200 voucher from Edge Golf and Danny Teoh claimed this with a distance of only five centimetres.
There were no hole-in-one prizes awarded this round which are sponsored by presenting sponsor Audi Singapore, Philip Stein and World Amateur Golfers Championship.
There were, however, a number of lucky draw prizes given out which were sponsored by Le Vigne, Yilai, SunMoon Food, Owell, Fitness First Singapore, Spectacle Hut, Golf & Leisure, Titleist, Fullerton Health, Ambient Lounge, W Hotel, Park Hotel Group, Yeo Teck Seng, Laguna Phuket and Banyan Tree.
The Banyan Tree special draw prize went to Amos Ng who won a two-night stay and play package for two at Laguna Bintan, sponsored by Banyan Tree.
The third round of the league will take place at Jurong Country Club on Friday, July 29.
