One-armed boy with a mighty swing
The next time you feel like quitting on the golf course, just watch this video of four-year-old Tommy Morrissey.
He may have been born without most of his right arm, but the boy from Florida certainly doesn’t lack heart.
Tommy even has an Instagram account (@onearmgolfer) where one can watch clips of his solid one-arm drives, which can go up to 100 yards (91.4m).
“It’s both a gift and a challenge. And he doesn’t know he has either one,” Joe Morrissey, Tommy’s father, told the Press of Atlantic City.
During the summer, Tommy visits New Jersey with his family. That’s also where he gets coached by Linwood PGA professional Jeff LeFevre.
“I was very skeptical at first,” LeFevre said.
“Most 3-year-olds are more interested in Tonka Trucks than golf… But Tommy was different. His set-up and stance were perfect, and he had the slight hesitation at the top of his backswing that you’re looking for. I stepped back and had a tear in my eye. The ball is the biggest truth in golf, and he hit it square. He is beyond unique.”
Tommy’s mother, Marcia Lee, also revealed that Tommy prefers to sleep with his golf clubs instead of stuffed animals.
She said: “And it wasn’t just one club. He had eight in there. One night we forgot one and he freaked out and said, ‘I need my driver’.”
