Fore!
Watch out as the biggest names in golf are coming to a publication near you.
Swing, a new monthly golf special produced by Singapore Press Holdings, will hit the stands from tomorrow in three of its English papers.
The first issue, featuring Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, will appear tomorrow in The New Paper, followed by The Business Times Weekend on Saturday and The Sunday Times on Sunday.
Content in the three newspapers will be different, catering to the different audiences each publication attracts.
The new specials will carry content from the world's leading golf magazine, Golf Digest, as well as some of Singapore's best-known golf writers and commentators.
Patrick Daniel, editor-in-chief of the SPH English/Malay/Tamil Media Group, said: "Swing will be a top quality monthly special that will run in three of our papers, so that we can best serve the large group of golfers in Singapore and also those in the golf industry."
Swing will be produced under a new SPH unit called SPH Golf, which will also be organising golf events, in addition to the monthly golf specials.
"We will also promote and organise golf events such as the BT Corporate League, now into its sixth year, to help our partners build networks and gain new friends," Daniel added.
SPH Golf are the organisers of the Singapore qualifers for the World Amateur Golfers Championships, which scours the nation for the best team of amateur golfers of varying handicaps to represent Singapore in a prestigious WAGC finals that will be held in Turkey from Nov 28 to Dec 5.
SPH Golf will be run by Murali Subramaniam, the deputy editor of The New Paper. He will concurrently be general manager of SPH Golf and editor of Swing.
ADVANTAGES
He will be assisted by business director Timothy Lim, creative editor Jacqueline Wu and assistant manager Clarice Bong.
Murali said: "One of the biggest advantages that SPH Golf and Swing has is the wide readership and reach of our three English newspapers.
"The content in the three papers will vary to cater to their different audiences.
"We have lined up leading writers like Godfrey Robert, Spencer Robinson, Rohit Brijnath, Tan Ju Kuang, Ven Sreenivasan and Rahul Pathak to complement the top-notch content from Golf Digest.
"This publication will be very different from anything else in the market."
Vanessa Heng, marketing and communications manager for Titleist South-east Asia, said: "Kudos to SPH, avid golfers can now look forward to local and international golf news in Swing.
"It is a great platform to bring the game of golf to a wider community."
