Cyclists' new pain: Selfie-ish fans
They're the latest road hazard. Cellphone-toting, selfie-taking fans, who throw caution to the wind at the ongoing Tour de France.
Fans eager to get a piece of the action have been stepping onto the tarmac - in search of a spontaneous snapshot as riders approach.
Such impromptu selfie-taking is a safety risk for riders, said cyclist Geraint Thomas.
He has had to avoid fans who are so pre-occupied with the action on their handsets that they become a real danger.
"The worst thing is when people have got their back to the peloton taking selfies. There were a few. They don't see us coming and they're on the road and it's dodgy," said Mr Thomas.
Ugh!
He said these selfies are the "new pain in the backside" of the Tour de France.
The current tour, which began in Yorkshire on Saturday, saw millions of fans coming out to cheer the riders.
Here are some of the selfies that Thomas consider a real menace.
