Fans of Atletico Madrid turn streets of Madrid white and red
After 18 years of suffering, fans of Atletico Madrid celebrated their team's win by flooding the streets of Madrid in a sea of red and white this morning.
Spanish news site AS reported that thousands of fans, clad in Atletico Madrid's home strips of red and white, gathered at the old Neptune Fountain in the Madrid city centre.
Although the open top bus that was suppose to carry the victorious team to the fountain was supposed to arrived at 8pm local time (4am Singapore time), fans gathered hours before.
As the bus arrived, fans chanted "Olé, Olé, Olé, Cholo Simeone”, and also chants that honour the memory of former coach Luis Aragones who died in February this year.
Photos shared on social media shows the elation of fans as they celebrate their championship win.
While they might party today, the players will soon have to turn their concentration to Sunday's Champions League final against their rivals Real Madrid, who no doubt will be jealous of their cross towns rivals La Liga success.
