Arbeloa: Casillas and me better off as Facebook friends

Maybe we’re better off as Facebook friends.

Real Madrid’s Alvaro Arbeloa insists that his feud with teammate Iker Casillas is over but added “it’s easier to stay friends on Facebook”.

The relationship between the Spaniards soured after a social-media spat between the pair last year.

Real captain Casillas liked a post mocking Arbeloa’s lack of mobility and the former Liverpool man responded by retweeting a link to a book which referred to Casillas as a “tumour on Real Madrid”.

The duo also fell out during Jose Mourinho’s tenure at the Bernabeu, with the defender a staunch supporter of the Portuguese while the goalkeeper was famously marginalised by the now Chelsea manager.

Arbeloa’s also snubbed Casillas in the tunnel ahead of this season’s Spanish Super Cup first-leg against Atletico Madrid.

The fullback acknowledged all his teammates but blanked out his club captain.

But apparently all this is behind the pair.

In the past

“Between Iker and Alvaro there is zero conflict and zero problems,” Arbeloa told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

“We are fortunate to share joys and titles. It is an issue that no longer interests. We are teammates.

“It is difficult to have friends in life, on Facebook it is easier.

“In the national team it goes badly when things are not going well, but I have felt loved by my colleagues, the coach, etc. I only have good memories.”
