Balestier qualify for AFC Cup after RHB Singapore Cup triumph
Unfashionable Balestier Khalsa will play in the AFC Cup for the first time in their history after winning their first RHB Singapore Cup title.
In Friday’s final at the Jalan Besar Stadium, in front of 6,175 fans and President Tony Tan Keng Yam, the Tigers upset the odds by beating favourites Home United 3-1.
Goran Ljubojevic gave his side a 15th-minute lead before Kim Minho doubled the advantage 13 minutes later from the spot after being fouled in the box by Masrezwan Masturi.
Park Kang Jin put the icing on the cake with a third goal in the 90th minute following a quick counter-attack against the Protectors, who had captain Noh Rahman sent off in the 82nd minute after collecting two yellow cards.
Sirina Camara grabbed a consolation goal from the penalty spot in added time after being brought down by Zulkiffli Hassim in the box.
