Casillas’ poor throw-in lights up social media
A botched throw-in by Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas deep into injury time probably best summed up the deposed European champions’ night.
With the score at 1-1 and 3-2 on aggregate in Juventus’ favour during their Champions League semi-final at the Bernabeu on Thursday morning (Singapore time), it was probably Real’s last throw of the dice.
Casillas abandoned his post and went to take a quick throw-in to Marcelo.
But he produced a foul throw instead, prompting several memes on social media.
Casillas had become the second player to play 150 Champions League games, just a day after Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez became the first.
The Real Madrid icon is likely to be overtaken again, as Xavi looks set to make another appearance in the June 6 final.
But, with Xavi heading for the Barca exit door after this season, Casillas is likely to make the record his own.
