Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and more take on ice bucket challenge
It was only a matter of time.
With the ice bucket challenge to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) catching on like wildfire among celebrities, the latest viral craze to hit the Internet has finally started to take off with footballers.
While Manchester United legends Gary Neville and Paul Scholes were among the first footballers to get ball rolling in support of James McCarthy - a young man from Manchester who was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour - after their "Class of '92 and Friends" team lost 5-1 to Salford City FC on Aug 7, the challenge has since been passed on to Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former United legend stripped down to his underwear before his teammate Fabio Coentrao and one other unidentified person did the honours with two huge white buckets.
As mentioned in the video, Ronaldo received the challenge from United's vice-captain Darren Fletcher, who was soaked with two buckets of water at the Red Devils' Aon Training Complex in Carrington with McCarthy himself kicking it off.
Aside from Ronaldo, Fletcher nominated ex-Red Devil defender Wes Brown, now with Sunderland.
While Ronaldo's video was seriously low-res, the Portuguese flyer, still in his undies, was captured dousing Real Madrid's Brazilian left-back Marcelo, who was nominated by Canadian footballer Kalyn Kyle (more on her in a bit).
Aside from Brazilian TV personalities Paulo Gustavo and Luciano Huck, Marcelo nominated his national teammate and La Liga rival Neymar.
For his nominations, the Barcelona superstar made some interesting choices as he picked his idol Robinho, One Direction's Niall Horan (what?) and Colombian footballer Juan Zuniga, who infamously kneed Neymar in the back at the World Cup and cracked one of his vertebra.
Zuniga accepted Neymar's dare and challenged Colombian teammates Pablo Armero, Juan Cuadrado and James Rodriguez to do the same.
To top off this latest ice bucket round-up, here's Canadian women's football player Kalyn Kyle as mentioned above:
