Fab signing for Liverpool

Brazilian midfielder Fabinho joins the Reds on $79m deal, calls on Fekir to follow him

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Fabinho from AS Monaco, the English Premier League club said on Tuesday morning (Singapore time).

British newspapers reported that Liverpool will pay about £44 million (S$78.7m) for the 24-year-old who will move to Anfield on July 1.

“I am really excited about this move,” Fabinho, who operates as a defensive midfielder, told the Liverpool website. “This is something that I always wanted – this is a giant of a team. The infrastructures of the club look exceptional.

“A football club of this size coming after my services, I didn’t have to think that much about coming over.

“I will try to create my own history at this football club. Hopefully, on a personal level, I’m able to win titles with this club.”

Fabinho has played four times for Brazil but is not in their squad for next month’s World Cup.

He has called on Lyon's French attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir, who has been linked to Liverpool, to join him at Anfield.

Fekir, 24, scored in France's 2-0  win over Ireland in a friendly on Tuesday morning (Singapore time).

"He is a very good player, of international level," Fabinho told RMC Sport.

"In Ligue 1, it is not only this season that he has demonstrated things. For a few years he has shown his quality. If he comes, it will be good too."

Liverpool, who finished fourth in the EPL last season and reached the Champions League final, have also signed Guinea international Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.
