Gareth Bale gives up his fast cars for the sake of his hamstrings
Flying Welsh winger Gareth Bale has ditched flashy cars in an attempt to keep his career going at full throttle.
The Real Madrid star has given a £30,000-a-year (S$63,652) car-hire scheme the boot because, apparently, low-slung Lamborghinis play havoc with his hamstrings.
He signed up to the scheme so that he did not have to upkeep a car of his own in Britain, when he makes trips back from Spain.
A source told the Sun: “The Lamborghinis are the worst — lots of footballers find that.
"There’s plenty of time to race around in one when he’s retired so he’s had to reluctantly pull out of the scheme.”
And fans on Twitter were quick to make fun of the Wales star – subject of interest from Manchester United, which is sponsored by US car giant Chevrolet.
One person joked: “Nowhere near as good as the Chevrolet you’ll get when you sign for United.”
Another added: “Come to Utd lad you can have a spin in my brothers 1.2 Nova you’ll love it.”
Bale is not the first player to give up luxury cars to avoid injuries.
Fellow countryman and former Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs ditched his own flashy rides after similar problems during his playing career.
