Griezmann lets his feet do the talking: Rodri

Following Ramos' jibe, Atletico Madrid forward shines in comeback win

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has let his feet do the talking in response to a jibe from Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, said Atletico midfielder Rodri.

Griezmann, 27, helped spark Atletico's 2-1 comeback win over hosts Monaco yesterday morning (Singapore time) by providing a through-ball for Diego Costa to equalise in the 31st minute.

Defender Jose Gimenez then clinched the winner on the stroke of half-time of their Champions League Group A encounter by heading home from a corner.

Before the game, Ramos had criticised Griezmann for claiming that he is on a par with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Said Ramos: "When I hear this kid talk, I remember players like (Francesco) Totti, Raul (Gonzalez), (Gianluigi) Buffon, (Iker) Casillas, (Paolo) Maldini, Xavi (Hernandez) or (Andres) Iniesta who have won everything but not a Ballon d'Or.

"Everyone is free to express their opinion, but I think he should take the advice of (Diego) Simeone, (Diego) Godin or Koke who represent the values that serve them (Atletico Madrid) well."

After the match, Rodri told Marca: "Griezmann can speak on the pitch, if others want to talk off it, then they are free to do so.

"He was not affected by the words of Ramos, he can speak if he wants to, but that will not impact what happens on the pitch."

Atletico's win was a timely boost, following their poor start to the season, reported AFP.

Los Rojiblancos have won only one La Liga game this term and their torrid form looked set to continue when Monaco took the lead in the 18th minute through Samuel Grandsir.

Diego Simeone's side continued to suffer and it took a flying save from goalkeeper Jan Oblak to prevent Jean-Eudes Aholou from doubling Monaco's lead with a long-range strike.

Costa gave the visitors a lifeline just after the half-hour mark by controlling a clever through-ball from Griezmann and providing a cool finish.

It proved a shot in the arm to Atletico and they responded by dominating the rest of the half, eventually clinching the winner on the stroke of half-time when defender Jose Gimenez headed home from a corner, helped by sloppy goalkeeping from Monaco keeper Danijel Subasic.

Costa had a goal correctly ruled out for offside after the break and Atletico came under pressure in the final stages, but withstood a late charge from Monaco for a much-needed victory.
