Historic win for Leganes
Victor Diaz scored the only goal as Leganes defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 yesterday morning (Singapore time) in the club's first-ever game in the Spanish top flight.
Diaz steered in from a corner on 75 minutes to hand Leganes victory on their La Liga debut, having won promotion to the top tier by finishing runners-up in Spain's second division last season.
Leganes, who were founded in 1928, will host Atletico Madrid at their modest 8,000-seater stadium on the outskirts of the Spanish capital in their first home game on Sunday morning before champions Barcelona visit next month.
Meanwhile, Las Palmas stunned Valencia 4-2 at the Mestalla with Croatian striker Marko Livaja netting a brace in the final game of the opening round of matches in Spain.
