No mountain my players cannot climb: Klopp

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp believes his players have proved there is "no mountain they cannot climb" after stepping up a level to clinch a dramatic victory over Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.

Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino struck a stoppage-time winner as the Merseyside club beat PSG 3-2 in a thrilling Champions League Group C clash yesterday morning (Singapore time).

Having inflicted the first defeat of the season on the French champions, Klopp believes Liverpool have reaffirmed the credentials that took them to the final of the elite European competition last term.

"The cool development of this club is that when you hear Liverpool are playing PSG, you don't think we have no chance any more," Reuters quoted him as saying.

"One, two or three years ago maybe people thought it's a mountain we cannot climb.

"That is good that it is not like that now and that is because of last year.

"It's still so unbelievably difficult. What the boys make of the match plan is extraordinary.

"One of them a yard less tonight and it's game over."

The German singled out Daniel Sturridge for praise after he opened the scoring after being promoted to the starting XI due to Firmino's eye injury.

The 29-year-old appeared to be on the outer last season after an unproductive loan spell with relegated West Bromwich Albion.

Said Klopp: "Daniel played a super game. I have never seen him as fit as he is in the moment.

"He was everywhere. He helped left and right and he was in the box when he was needed.

"Then you can bring Bobby Firmino on and that helps a lot. I loved his goal celebration."

On his goal, Sturridge told BT Sport: "It was great to score and it was a great ball by this man here (Andrew Robertson).

"Him and Trent (Alexander-Arnold) have got a competition going on, so it was good to help him out."

Former Reds favourite John Barnes was effusive in his praise of the striker, saying that on his form yesterday, he could play for any team in the world.

The former England international told talkSPORT: "Daniel is a great player, and if he continues to show the attitude he did last night, he would get in anybody's team.

"Will Daniel then get discouraged because he's not playing every week?

"I don't know, but the attitude he showed last night, if he keeps that up, he'll be OK."

Former England international Martin Keown, however, believes Sturridge should have bagged a treble.

He wrote in his Daily Mail column: "Daniel Sturridge showed he still has plenty to offer Juergen Klopp but he spurned two glorious chances that would have put Liverpool out of sight...

"He should have ended the night with a hat-trick."
