PSG played with zero intensity: Ferdinand

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand slammed Paris Saint-Germain's performance in their 3-2 loss to Liverpool yesterday morning (Singapore time), saying the French champions looked like they were playing a testimonial match rather than a Champions League fixture.

The former England international said on British broadcaster BT Sport: "I was very, very disappointed in them.

"As individuals, collectively, there was zero intensity.

"Complete opposite scale to the Liverpool team.

"For me, at times, it looked like they were in a testimonial game, the way they played.

"The forwards never wanted to defend, I don't know if they are not asked to or they just don't want to and they got punished...

"They have built a superstar team, they have got superstar players, but I don't see them as a team."

Former Reds defender John Arne Riise added that as a PSG fan, he would be livid at how "lazy" the French side's attackers were.

He told BT Sport: "The PSG players, I would have been mad if I support them, seeing how lazy they were at the front and how they didn't run back."

Fellow ex-Liverpool player John Barnes, meanwhile, slammed Kylian Mbappe for making the mistake that led to Roberto Firmino's injury-time winner.

He said on beIN Sports: "Mbappe is trying to nutmeg someone on the edge of the box, unbelievable. He gives the ball away and Liverpool score.

"But to be honest, I think that could be one thing that lets PSG down because you can see Neymar and Mbappe at times alone to themselves in terms of effort and work rate."

Former AC Milan star Ruud Gullit agreed, but added that the third member of PSG's attacking trident, Edinson Cavani, was just as much to blame as his strike partners.

He told beIN Sports: "If you are a coach then you would be going crazy. In a game like this, I hope he will tell (Mbappe).

"What do you think of Cavani? Did you even hear his name mentioned in the second half?"

PSG captain Thiago Silva, however, insisted that the whole team were to blame for the Group C defeat at Anfield.

He said: "Neymar tried to help the team. He did what the coach asked. People will try to find a culprit. We are all guilty, though...

"We were not 100 per cent concentrated. You should not concede goals like we did."

His manager Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, insisted that the final result was "not logical or correct".

He said: "Maybe the score did not really tell the story of the game.

"Julian Draxler had a chance to win the game before Liverpool got their goal. For me, the score was not logical or correct.

"We conceded two goals in the first half but never at any point did we lose our confidence."
