Real Madrid grab 16-year-old Norwegian wonderkid

To see him in action running rings around his opponents, you can easily see why Europe's top clubs wanted this 16-year-old.

The eventual winners of the bidding war for Martin Oedegaard were Spanish giants Real Madrid, who grabbed the Norwegian wonderkid for the relative bargain price of £3.1 million (S$6.3 million).

Oedegaard - who was with Norwegian side Stroemsgodset and plays for Norway's national team - had been linked to Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United and Ajax after he was spotted at their respective training facilities over the past few months.

However, he has set his heart on a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

Well, with Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti describing him as "a kid with talent and personality", it's a match made in football heaven.

The European champions released a statement saying that an agreement had been reached for Oedegaard's transfer.

While other 16-year-olds will be dreaming of the day they receive their first pay packets, Oedegaard is expected to be getting a £80,000-a-week salary, according to Mail Online.

After a medical, he will be formally presented in front of the media on Thursday (Jan 22).

"He has developed enormously in a short time. He brought down barriers that I think neither he nor anyone else imagined would fall," Norway manager Per-Mathias Hoegmo told the Aftenposten daily.

"His way of playing, his talent, his ability to make choices and think, all of this is impressive," he added.

In the vein of greatness following greatness, it is expected Oedegaard will start his Madrid career under French legend Zinedine Zidane in the Real Madrid B team.
