Shifting goalposts? Jose claims second is good enough for Chelsea
Another day, another sound bite from Jose Mourinho.
However, the latest quotes from the Chelsea boss are somewhat uncharacteristic of the Special One, who now says that it would be okay if Chelsea finished second in the English Premier League.
"I can do nothing more than say we feel we are title contenders," the 51-year-old told the Mail on Sunday.
"If the team finishing first is better than us - if we are very good but somebody is better than us - that's football.
"That's not a failure. The only thing you can do is be good.
"We have to fight for the title and after that if somebody is really better than us, it's because they were fantastic."
It seems like Mourinho, known for his win-at-all-cost mentality, is trying to take the pressure off his team after they were made favourites by bookies to wrest the title away from holders Manchester City.
After all, Jose doesn't take failure very lightly - just ask Arsene Wenger, who was branded by the Portuguese as a "specialist in failure" for not winning any silverware for eight years prior to Arsenal's FA Cup win last season.
