Liverpool's Diogo Jota dies in car crash in Spain: reports

The 28-year-old Portugese forward had just gotten married two weeks ago.

The Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died following a car crash in northwestern Spain.

He was 28.

Spanish state-owned TV station, citing local firefighters, said on Thursday (July 3) that the accident took place near the city of Zamora.

Spanish daily Marca reported that Jota and his brother Andre, 26, were travelling in a car that suddenly veered off the road and burst into flames.

Just two weeks ago, Jota had married long-time partner Rute Cardoso, mother to two of his children.

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, scoring 65 goals in 182 appearances in all competitions.

He was also capped 49 times by Portugal, winning the UEFA Nations League twice.
