Chong Wei vows to bounce back after cancer treatment

Malaysian badminton legend Lee Chong Wei, who is battling nose cancer, has vowed to return to action one day.

The 35-year-old expressed his determination to make a comeback in a voice message from Taiwan, where he has been seeking medical treatment, reported The Star.

"Wait for me. I'll return to the court. Don't forget me yet, I'm still here," he said. "I'll return soon. Thank you for all the concern and care shown to me during my two-month recovery."

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) revealed on Saturday that Lee was responding well to treatment for the early-stage disease.

Malaysia's national badminton coach Hendrawan said he was happy with Lee's progress during treatment and will wait patiently to discuss his sporting future.

Hendrawan said Lee felt something was wrong during the Indonesian Open in Jakarta in the first week of July, just days after clinching his 12th Malaysian Open title.

He told The Star: "I've never seen him so tired before. It was unlike him. Chong Wei left for home to find out what was wrong."

Lee, a three-time Olympic silver medallist, then told Hendrawan the news after two doctors confirmed that it's nose cancer.

He subsequently withdrew from two major competitions last month -the World Championships in Nanjing, China, and the Asian Games in Indonesia - with the BAM citing that he had a "respiratory-related disorder".
