Sharks beat Sunwolves to seal q-final spot

The Coastal Sharks of South Africa became the seventh qualifiers for the Super Rugby quarter-finals after a laboured 40-29 final league round victory over Sunwolves of Japan in Durban yesterday.

They join the Waikato Chiefs, Canterbury Crusaders, title-holders Otago Highlanders and Wellington Hurricanes of New Zealand and the Golden Lions and Western Stormers of South Africa in the knockout phase.

The last quarter-final spot is a toss up between Australian teams the NSW Waratahs and ACT Brumbies.

Victory at Kings Park Stadium gave the Sharks an unassailable six-point advantage over compatriots Northern Bulls in the race for third place in the combined Africa 1 and 2 standings.
