Augustano fresh and Lord Of Light sparkles
Singapore best bets for Friday and Sunday
Augustano was rated as a top three-year-old and targeted for the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge, but his career was put on the back burner after the first leg of the three-race series.
He had finished fourth in the Group 3 Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint over 1,200m on March 30 and then missed the next two legs because of a spell.
The time-off has certainly benefited the Lee Freedman-trained Australian-bred, who has been trialling with gusto.
On April 19, he finished a narrow second in his trial, won by stablemate Enchanted Mister, who went on to win a race.
Then last week, Augustano mesmerised tracksiders when he put up a sterling performance with his runaway trial win. He went further and further away from his rivals to win by almost five lengths in a fairly good time.
It's now all systems go for his comeback and he looks hard to beat in today's Race 7, a Kranji Stakes C event over the 1,000m dash on the Polytrack.
The bay gelding has been a money-spinner for King Power Stable. From nine starts, he has recored four wins - two under Cliff Brown and two under Freedman - and two seconds.
On Sunday, the Mark Walker-trained Lord Of Light should be third-time lucky in Race 4, the Open Maiden (2) event over the Poly 1,200m.
After his debut third, the four-year-old was a beaten $14 favourite second-up. With the two runs under his belt, Lord Of Light is now ready to fire.
