Quechua gets HK Vase invite
Singapore will, after all, not be without runners at Hong Kong's all-stars racing rendezvous, the LONGINES Hong Kong International Races on Dec 11 after QUECHUA was handed a last-minute berth in the HK$16.5 million ($3 million) Group 1 Hong Kong Vase over 2,400m at Sha Tin.
This follows the withdrawal of Japan's Erupt from the Vase, leaving a vacancy.
"I'd like to thank the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the invitation. It's always fantastic to get the opportunity to measure up against the world's best," said Shaw.
"The invite came at the last minute, but the race still fits into his programme as he just ran in the (Dester Singapore) Gold Cup a week ago (fifth to Bahana on Nov 20) and is still fit.
"He just needed one or two gallops. He will have his last gallop on Saturday before he leaves for Hong Kong on Monday. Quechua will stay all day and I'm sure he'll do his best.
Barend Vorster will ride Quechua, who has long been one of Singapore's illustrious horses, boasting a record of eight wins from 26 starts for over $2.8 million for Avengers Stable.
