Super Denman's good to go
The best from a quiet day on the training track
On a morning when the training track was rather empty of gallopers and quiet from the lack of activity, which is normal when there's just the Friday of racing, there were still a handful of horses to whet the appetite of the early-risers.
Of these, one should take note of Super Denman.
A runner in Race 3 - the Class 4 Non Premier sprint over the 1,100m - he worked like a good horse, galloping over the straight before being pulled up at the turn into the back stretch.
Nooresh Juglall was the man in the saddle. The Mauritian will also partner him on raceday.
Short of a fortnight, it has been almost a year since Super Denman opened his Kranji account.
That was in a Restricted Maiden event over the 1,200m and that day, the then-three-year-old showed them how best to get it done.
Tracking the pacemaker Fusion Power for the early part of the journey, he claimed the lead before they made that first turn and never gave it back.
He eventually beat Fusion Power by almost a length. His trainer, Ricardo Le Grange, has been patient with the youngster who has had just eight race starts since that victory.
However, he has run some good trials, like the one just last week when he put three lengths between himself and the chasing pack. He won that in a time of 60.70sec.
I reckon yesterday's gallop was the finishing touch before raceday.
Super Denman looks like a real bread-and-butter type of horse and he'll carry on paying for his board and lodging.
He has so far banked in almost $80,000 for his owners, The Number One Stable, and he's not done yet.
He meets some good ones in that early race tomorrow. Among others, he will have to contend with the likes of Miss Dusty, Super Six and Sun Princeps.
To make matters even more difficult, he will have to jump from the outermost chute which means Juglall will have to step on the gas early so as not to get Super Denman caught in a "traffic jam".
But he is in that kind of form that a good run - or even a win - wouldn't surprise.
And, if he needs more assurance, here's a morsel of encouragement.
When Super Denman won in September last year, he drew barrier 10 in a 12-horse field.
