For sure, Noah's going places

Last-start winner holds his form to win at Tuesday's trials

When Noah From Goa won at his second start in mid-August, we knew we had witnessed something special.

We said then, it didn't matter where he came from. The important thing was, he had arrived.

That day, Noah From Goa didn't just win a race. With Nooresh Juglall on the reins, he won with such authority that a video of that victory should be made compulsory viewing for young apprentices eager to learn how to win from the front.

Then again, even Juglall would agree, his job that day was to stay in the saddle and steer. Noah From Goa would do the rest. And that's exactly what the chestnut did.

Noah From Goa was at the trials on Tuesday and, like it was on the last two occasions he tackled the 1,000m in the early morning, he whipped his rivals.

But unlike that race win - and as if he needed to prove his versatilty - he did it differently.

Instead of being hunted down by the pack, Noah From Goa played predator.

Jumping from Gate 8, Juglall was obliged to park his mount wide and that's where they stayed - in fourth spot and four-wide - when they made that sweeping left-hander which brought them to the 600m marker.

On straightening for the run home, "Noah" got going. On a short rein and needing no persuasion, the six-year-old gobbled up the opposition.

He would go on to beat stablemate Rafaello (Barend Vorster) by half a length. But don't make a song and dance about the narrow margin. It was easier than that. Much easier.

Noah From Goa went on to stop the clock at 59.71sec. It couldn't have been any better.

Noah From Goa is, at the moment, one of the more exciting gallopers at Kranji. His win just last month was a preview of what he is realy capable of achieving.

And, winning his trial with such authority would have added to his aura.

His trainer, Ricardo Le Grange has him on the right track and, like most of his fans, we wait for Noah's next act to unfold. Bet you, it will be something to savour.

Also at the trials we saw Toosbies run home a stylish winner.

Another one from Le Grange's barn - which seems to be bulging with talent - the youngster stalked the pace until the 300m mark when, together with Sacred Tonic, they drew away from the chasing pack.

With Vorster getting a sedan chair ride, Toosbies lengthened strides in style. He would eventually run away a comfortable five-length winner.

Sacred Tonic, having a blinkers/pacifiers test, held on for second with Destroyer Eclipse (binkers test) taking third, after coming from a long way back.

Just turned three, the Australian-bred Toosbies put in a solid effort on debut in July when runner-up to Mr Hooper in a 1,200m sprint on the grass.

We thought he would do better at his last start some two weeks ago, but after jumping away awkwardly, he never regained his rhythm, finishing sixth behind the very-talented Revolution.

Toosbies is better than that and it could pay to have him on your shortlist. His day in the sun should come sooner rather than later.
