Troy See suspended for 4 days

Leading apprentice returns less than the allotted weight on Gannet, who is disqualified

Leading apprentice Troy See has been suspended for four Singapore race days after returning to scale less than his allotted weight in Race 5 at Friday's night meeting at Kranji.

His mount, Gannet, who was third past the post, was disqualified.

Before the "All Clear" was given, the panel of stewards conducted an inquiry following a report from the clerk of scales that See had returned to scale and weighed in less than his allotted weight.

It was established that See had weighed in, in excess of 0.5kg less than the allotted weight that Gannet was entitled to carry.

Acting under MRA Rule 121(2), See was allowed 0.5kg, however, as he was still not able to make the correct weight, Gannet was disqualified under the rule. The placings were amended accordingly.

At a subsequent inquiry, See pleaded guilty to a charge in that he negligently failed to maintain and monitor his bodyweight, thereby resulting in him, as the rider of Gannet, returning in excess of half a kilogramme underweight and the horse being subsequently disqualified as the third placegetter of the race.

When considering the penalty, the stewards took into account the nature of the charge, his record and submissions from See that he has been engaged to ride this Friday and Sunday.

The stewards deferred See's suspension to next Monday until Oct 7, which covers four Singapore race days.

In addition, See was fined $5,000. He was advised of his right of appeal.

See is having a great season and his double on Friday night has taken his season's tally to 24 winners, six clear of two-time champion rookie CC Wong in the apprentices' table.

Both his winners, Lim's Revent and Lim's Lightning, were trained by Steven Burridge for Lim's Stable.

Two other riders, apprentice CK Ng and jockey M Lerner, were also suspended but for careless riding charges.

Ng, the rider of Dream Comes True in Race 6 on Friday pleaded guilty to permitting his mount to shift inwards near the 1,000m mark, when not clear of Ben Gunn. This resulted in that horse having to be checked.

Ng was suspended for four Singapore race days until Sept 28.

Lerner , the rider of Moritz Eclipse in Race 8, pleaded guilty to permitting his mount to shift outwards near the 300m mark, when insufficiently clear of Yaya Papaya, resulting in that horse having to be checked.

As Lerner has been engaged to ride this coming Friday and Sunday, his suspension of two Singapore race days will be from Sept 24 until Sept 28.

Another rider, apprentice R Iskandar, was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount, Elise, out to the end of the race in the eighth event on Friday night.
