Ronaldo critcises former manager Jose Mourinho
So it was all a show.
Two of the best showmen in football may have been putting up an act after all. Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho, also from Portugal, had always made it seem like they had been dreaming of the day they can work together.
But turns out it was a Real nightmare.
Ronaldo, 29, said there was a "bad atmosphere" at times during Mourinho's reign at the club, which led to "a difficult period both for me and for the club".
He added: "There were clashes with other players too and even with the fans," the famed Portuguese player said in an interview with Portuguese television channel TVI.
It was so bad that Ronaldo wouldn't even consider his Portuguese former boss a friend.
"The only coach I've worked under whom I'd call a friend is Alex Ferguson, that's it. That includes (Manuel) Pellegrini and (Carlo) Ancelotti, whom I get on really well with. I'm not in football to make friends. I'm in it to win."
