Shaqiri's hat-trick sends Swiss through

A rampant Xherdan Shaqiri scored the second hat-trick of the tournament as Switzerland brushed aside Honduras in Thursday morning's Group E match.

The superb Shaqiri opened his account in the sixth minute after he held off the attention of his marker and unleashed a curling shot which flew into the post.

Throughout the match the Kosovo-born Shaqiri  linked up well with strike partner Josip Drmic and the partnership paid off when Drmic provided a through pass for Shaqiri to steer his shot past the Honduran goalkeeper at the half-hour mark.

As the Hondurans searched for a goal in the second half, they were caught out cold in the 71st minute when the Swiss launched a swift counter attack via the dynamic duo of Drmic and Shaqiri.

The win means that the Swiss finished second in the group and will face Argentina in the round of 16 on July 7.
