Silat legend Sheik Alau'ddin's son is now also a world silat champion
Like father, like son.
Sheik Farhan, the third of silat great Sheik Alau'ddin's four sons, emulated his famous father by becoming a world champion, after a 3-2 win over Vietnam's Mac Quoc Hung in the final of the Class J (90-95kg) category of the Pencak Silat World Championship on Friday (Jan 16).
The championship was held in Phuket, Thailand.
The 17-year-old's triumph comes as a surprise as this is his debut in the competition.
But Farhan, who exudes supreme confidence despite his tender age, had told The New Paper in an earlier interview that he enters every competition targeting to win it.
The Nanyang Polytechnic student gained 20kg in the six months prior to the world championship to be able to compete in the Class J category.
His father won two world titles, in 1990 and 1994.
