Relieved Young Lions drawn in Group A for SEA Games
A huge sigh of relief was heard in the Black Box auditorium at the Sports Hub during the SEA Games football draw this afternoon.
Hosts Singapore had already been drawn into Group A along with Indonesia, while defending champions Thailand were in Group B with Malaysia.
Vietnam and Myanmar were in the next pot to be drawn and there was a general sense of relief when Asean Football Federation secretary general Azzuddin Ahmad picked Vietnam into Group B, leaving Myanmar, widely believed to be weaker opposition in the Young Lions' group.
Cambodia and the Philippines are the other teams in Group A, while Laos, Brunei and Timor Leste are in Group B.
The SEA Games football competition kicks off on May 29 and the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
Singapore Under-23s coach Aide Iskandar said: "I'm happy with the draw. The competition is open and it is important we do not underestimate any opponents.
"Believe me, we are working very hard to do well for Singapore."
