$42m Lovren signs for Liverpool
Liverpool have signed Dejan Lovren from Southampton for £20 million ($42.4m).
The Croatian centre-back had previously made known his desire to join the Reds and becomes the third Saint to make a switch to Anfield after Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.
After finally getting the move that he had been craving for, Lovren was understandably a happy chappy as he posted on Twitter:
Speaking to Liverpool's official website liverpoolfc.com, Lovren said: "It's a dream come true.
"I'm most looking forward to Anfield, of course. I played there last season in front of the crowd singing You'll Never Walk Alone.
"That is something very special for every player, every sportsman and every fan. I can't wait to get started."
While Liverpool did not disclose the length of his contract, Lovren is believed to have signed a five-year deal.
Defensive boost
Manager Brendan Rodgers was pleased to capture the 25-year-old and believes he will give his team's backline a much-needed boost.
"He is a commanding and powerful presence and clearly has leadership skills, which is important. He fits the profile of player we are looking for," Rodgers said.
"He is still relatively young, so his peak years are ahead of him and I believe he will improve and progress even further with us."
