The timing was perfect.

Diehard Liverpool fan Pearlyn So was planning a surprise birthday gift for her best friend Lim Quan Yin, so she was thrilled to have won a limited edition LFC CashCard gift set plus an exclusive goodie bag in The New Paper Liverpool FC Rocks contest.

"My best friend's birthday is this month and she's also a Liverpool fan, so I'm so excited to give this to her as a surprise gift!" said So, who was delighted despite winning the second prize.

The best friends of seven years celebrate their friendship by watching Liverpool matches together.

"She influenced me to support Liverpool. Whenever we watch their matches together, we will order pizzas and discuss about the match," said So.

So thinks that Steven Gerrard is Liverpool's greatest-ever player because of his loyalty to the Reds, not to mention his tenacity and skills.

Another Liverpool fan who has reason to celebrate this week is Alex Lam, who won a Liverpool FC football signed by goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

He said: "I really didn't expect to win, I was just trying my luck."

"The club are part of my life. I've been supporting them for over 19 years, ever since I was in secondary school!"

Despite the loss to Chelsea last weekend, which handed the title-race advantage to Manchester City, Lam is pleased with the club's progress this season.

"It's been a very good season, they're still evolving. Even if we don't win the championship, they've already exceeded my expectations," said Lam.
