Clueless Pellegrini admits City are short of confidence
Five games in all competitions, just one win.
It's no surprise that Manuel Pellegrini has come out to say that Manchester City have a confidence issue after their 2-1 Champions League defeat to CSKA Moscow.
The result dealt a huge blow to City's European ambitions, leaving them rooted at the bottom of Group E with two games left to play against Bayern Munich and AS Roma.
Domestically, the English Premier League champions are six points off leaders Chelsea and were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Newcastle United.
City's poor form has mystified Pellegrini, who sounded like a broken record while trying to make sense of his side's poor performances.
Difficult to understand
The Chilean boss told Sky Sports: "It's very difficult to understand why we played so badly. From the beginning we were so nervous. We lost so many passes and we gave them the two goals. Really, we didn't play.
"It’s difficult to know why you have so low a performance. In the way we tried to play we have not changed anything we did in any other games. I realise it’s a very difficult and strange moment to understand why it happened.
"I don't think it's just this competition. I think in the last two weeks we are not playing bad, but we are not playing the way we normally do. I don’t understand why, but we must find the reason to arrange the solution.
"The performance of the team depends on individual performances and, I repeat, it’s difficult to understand why we are at this level.
"It's a crisis of confidence, of course, but we must find why. I am talking with the players every day and we are trying to win again."
To make things worse for Pellegrini, bookies Sky Bet has slashed the odds on the City manager being the next EPL manager to be sacked.
Time to get your act together, Manuel.
