Late City double sees off stubborn Villa
ASTON VILLA 0
MANCHESTER CITY 2
(Yaya Toure 82, Sergio Aguero 88)
Late goals from Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero saw Manchester City overcome a resilient Aston Villa side at Villa Park on Sunday morning (Singapore time).
The Villans were keen on avoiding a third consecutive English Premier League defeat after back-to-back meetings with Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea and looked to have done enough to grind out a point against the champions by keeping the game scoreless after 80 minutes.
However, Toure broke the hosts' stubborn resistance on 82 minutes with his first league goal of the season, placing a left-footer from outside the penalty area in the bottom left corner just beyond a diving Brad Guzan.
Aguero then sealed the win for Manuel Pellegrini's men six minutes later as he picked up a James Milner pass on the edge of the box to smash home the Sky Blues' second goal.
The result sent City into second place with 14 points to put them within two points of leaders Chelsea while Villa slipped to seventh as their bright start to the campaign looks to be fizzling out.
