Rooney: Don’t chant my name on the streets

It’s okay if fans do it in the stands, but Wayne Rooney gets irritated when people chant his name when they see him on the streets.

He said this in an interview with Neil Overend and Hayden Reid — or Little Ant and Dec, aged eight and seven respectively —  for television variety show: Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

Asked Little Dec: “Does it get annoying when people say ‘Rooney, Rooney, Rooney?”

The Manchester United and England captain replied: “It’s great when people say it in the stands.

“But if I’m in the street and people are doing it then it is annoying.”

The full interview, which also features Rooney joking and showing the pair some football tricks, is scheduled to be telecast after United play Aston Villa in the English Premier League on Saturday (April 4), reported the Daily Mail.

Fourth-placed United are hoping to consolidate their place in the top four for a return to Champions League football next season.
