S'pore sailors bag first ever gold medals at the Youth Olympic Games

Singapore sailors Bernie Chin and Samantha Yom sailed into the history books by winning Singapore's first ever gold medals at the Youth Olympic Games on Sunday (Aug 24).

Bernie,15, won the medal in the Byte CII-boys' one-person dinghy - to finish in first place in the final race.

The Raffles Institution student held off the challenge of his closest rival Pedro Luiz Marcondes.

Fellow sailor Samantha, 15, also did Singapore proud by winning gold in the women's event.

Their victories come after the race was cancelled on Saturday following low wind speeds at the competition arena.

Congratulations

The congratulations came quickly on social media for history-making pair, understandably so considering the magnitude of their achievement.
