Taffetas set to score
Former Malaysian galloper TAFFETAS was clearly in need of a run when fifth to Wonderful Prince last time out.
Trained by Bruce Marsh at Kranji, the four-year-old Australian-bred mare is now spot-on and will take some beating in Race 7 today in the Open benchmark 67 event over 1,200m.
In her Kranji debut on March 23, the bay mare surged up menacingly and looked poised to overtake Wonderful Prince at one point before her condition gave in.
She ended up fifth, only three and three-quarter lengths behind the winner, who underlined the form with another win last Sunday.
Trainer Marsh put Taffetas through a pacifiers test last week and the mare came through with flying colours.
She won with a nice turn of foot.
Coupled with the fact that she has drawn barrier 1 (compared to 11 last start), she looks set to open winning accounts today with 3kg-claiming leading apprentice Noh Senari astride.
From four starts in Malaysia, Taffetas finished second and third before coming to Singapore, indicating that she should be winning sooner than later.
In Australia, she had nine starts for two wins (over 1,100m on a soft track and 1,112m in yielding going).
