S'pore to meet M'sia in men's squash final

A 2-0 win over Philippines in the men's team squash semi-finals yesterday set Singapore up for a mouth-watering gold-medal clash with Malaysia.

Vivian Rhamanan beat Robert Garcia in straight sets at the Kallang Squash Centre, before Samuel Kang followed up with a similar 3-0 win over David Pelino to put them in today's final.

The Republic's women lost 2-0 to Malaysia in the last-four tie.

Mao Shi Yuan and Joannah Yue lost in straight sets to Rachel Arnold and V R Gnanasigamani respectively. Malaysia will take on Indonesia in today's final.

Gold for Malaysia, bronze for Singapore

The Malaysian women's team beat Thailand 3-1 to claim the hockey gold at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium last night.

Goals by Hanis N Onn, Siti Shahida Saad and Nurul N Mansur gave the Malaysians a commanding lead before Thailand scored a consolation goal through Sirikwan Wongkeaw.

Earlier in the day, Singapore clinched a bronze after they defeated Indonesia 1-0 through a 48th-minute goal by Chua Xinni.

In the men's event today, Singapore take on hot favourites Malaysia in the final, while Myanmar will face Thailand in the fight for bronze.

S'pore's volleyball teams on losing end

Singapore's women's volleyball team began their campaign on a losing note after going down 3-0 to Thailand at the OCBC Arena yesterday.

Hours later, the men's team suffered their second consecutive loss, a 3-0 defeat by Indonesia.

The men's side are currently bottom of the four-team Pool B, which is headed by Vietnam and followed by Indonesia and Cambodia.

The Republic have a chance to make amends today, when they face Vietnam.

The women's team, currently second in their group, will take on Myanmar in their final group game today.
