Schooling out of 100m freestyle finals

Singapore's Joseph Schooling has missed out on the 100m freestyle final after he came in eight in his semi-final.

The 21-year-old clocked a 48.7 seconds in his swim on Wednesday morning (Aug 10, Singapore time) at the Olympics Aquatic Centre which puts him in 16th place overall.

Earlier, he had smashed his own national record, clocking 48.27 seconds to finish second in the heats of the 100m freestyle.

He will next compete in his pet event, the 100m butterfly on Friday morning (Singapore time) and will be hoping to win a historic medal in the final on Saturday morning.

He won bronze for the event at last year's World Championships and is expected to make to the Olympic final
