Swimmer Toh Wei Soong wins Singapore's first medal at Asian Para Games

National swimmer Toh Wei Soong clinched Singapore's first medal - a silver - at the Asian Para Games (APG) in Hangzhou on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old finished second in the men's 400m freestyle S7, clocking 5min 12.16sec behind Ernie Gawilan of the Philippines (4:58.29) at the Hangzhou Aquatic Sports Arena. China's Huang Xianquan (5:16.63) took the bronze.

This is Toh's fourth Asiad medal - he won two golds in the 50m and 100m freestyle S7 and a bronze in the 100m backstroke S7 at the 2018 edition in Jakarta.

He will compete in three more events in Hangzhou: the 100m backstroke S7 on Thursday, and 50m butterfly S7 and 50m freestyle S7 a day later.

Earlier, compatriot Colin Soon finished fifth in the men's 100m breaststroke final SB13 in 1min 12.76sec.

Singapore's 31-strong contingent are competing for honours at the Asian Para Games in archery, athletics, badminton, boccia, lawnbowls, powerlifting, shooting, swimming and table tennis.
